A careful look at how the municipality spends
I’ve called for a deeper review of Resort Municipality of Whistler finances, to check whether money is being spent effectively — while being clear that this is not a call for aggressive, indiscriminate cuts.
Any fiscal restraint, in my view, should be approached very carefully and with real concern for the workers affected — evidence-based and deliberate, not a blunt slash-and-burn exercise.
This fits my broader promise to demystify municipal administration: I want to find ways to make Whistler’s financial statements intelligible to ordinary residents, not just to accounting and finance experts, so everyone can follow how their tax dollars are used.
I will vote in favour of, and advocate for, fiscally responsible behaviour on the part of council and the municipality — paired with clear public communication about why decisions are made.
